In honor of #HPVAwarenessDay, we’re celebrating the HPV vaccine and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance’s role in making sure the people who need it most have access. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer, but luckily, there’s a vaccine that can prevent infections from high-risk HPV types. The HPV vaccine is safe and effective and can prevent up to 90% of cervical cancer cases. The biggest challenge? Access. Most cervical cancer deaths happen in low- and middle-income countries where vaccines are too expensive and stigma and social barriers remain prevalent. But, by negotiating lower prices and expanding supply, @gavialliance has helped millions of girls get vaccinated – tracking to vaccinate 86 million girls by the end of 2025. Bottom line: the HPV vaccine is a game-changer, and Gavi is making sure it reaches the people who need it most.
